Frequently Asked Questions

Everything You Need to Know

Leaving your pet with a stranger is never an easy decision! We want you to know that your pet is in good hands at The Swanky Spaniel Pet Spa. We've compiled some of the most common questions into the list below. If you want further information, just get in touch. We are happy to discuss any questions you may have in regards to the grooming process!

How long will it take for my dog to be groomed?

It really depends on each specific pet and service! A FULL HAIRCUT can take anywhere from 1 hour to 4 hours depending on the size of your dog and the condition of your pet's coat. MAINTENANCE GROOMS and BATHS usually take an hour to an hour to 2 hours. Your pet's behavior is also a factor. There are a lot of variables when it comes to dog grooming! For example, if your pet is afraid of the dryer, we will work with him/her and put it on the lowest setting or give he/she a break to dry in front of a fan. This obviously adds to the total time spent on grooming but we are happy to accommodate each pet so they feel comfortable during the grooming process. Your pet's groomer can give you a time estimate when you drop your pet off!

How does The Swanky Spaniel Pet Spa determine the price of each service?

We consider many different variables when determining the price for each service. The size, coat type, coat condition, each pet's behavior, and our operating costs are the main factors that go into pricing. We also allow well behaved pets that are spayed/neutered to walked around the salon in a monitored setting which is an added luxury. In addition to the base prices listed above, if your pet is extremely matted, filthy, excessively defecates in the salon, and/or is aggressive, we may add an additional fee to your pet's groom price.

- Dematting/Wet Shave Fee : This fee is usually an additional $10-$20 based on the severity of your pet's matting. We add this fee for a few reasons.

1. Removing matting damages our grooming tools and requires the use of more product.

2. It is an additional risk. Many corporate salons will turn away matted pets and refer them to a veterinarian to get severe matting removed due to the risk of injury while removing matting.

3. It takes skill and more time to safely groom a matted pet. If it is safe to do so, we will wet shave your pet which often requires your pet to be bathed twice. Wet shaving can often help keep more length on your pet's coat. In order for us to complete the grooming service safely, we need to constantly check our equipment is operating properly and slowly remove the matting.

- Extreme Filth Fee : This fee includes dirt, urine, feces, and other unknown debris in your pet's coat. Not only is it more hazardous, but removing the excessive debris requires extra time and product to properly clean your pet.

- Handling Fee : A handling fee of $20 may be added if your pet shows excessive aggression. We are willing to work with each pet even if they are difficult for grooming. However, since this is a risk for both the groomer and pet, we do add an additional fee of $20.

If my dog is matted, do you have to shave him?

Depending on the severity of your dog's matting, we may have to shave him/her. We will only attempt to demat dogs when it is safe to do so. We will certainly do our best to save as much length as possible but the health and safety of your pet comes first! We will go over your dog's coat at check in to discuss any potential matting we may find.

What if I cannot pick my pet up right away?

We do kindly ask that each pet is picked up within an hour of the completion of service. If there is a problem and you cannot pick up your pet in a timely manner, please call the salon right away to let us know. We will do our best to accommodate you and your pet. However, an extra charge may be added to your bill if you are unable to pick up your pet within an hour.

Do you require my pet's vaccine records?

We do require up to date proof of up to date Rabies vaccinations. If your pet has a medical reason for not receiving the vaccine, please provide a document from your veterinarian. This will ensure that both humans and pets are safe while at The Swanky Spaniel Pet Spa!

Do I have to sign a release form for each service?

We do ask that each customer signs a consent form provided at the time of service for any service received at The Swanky Spaniel Pet Spa. This ensures that we have your consent to groom your pet! We will keep this document on file so you are not required to sign it each time your pet comes in for an appointment.
